Miracle Mom, Jenna had two terrifying and difficult preemie journeys. Miracle Baby, Claire, was delivered weighing 1 lb 2 oz. She had a very difficult 3 months in the NICU and Jenna almost lost her several times early on. But she showed herself to be a fighter and overcame every obstacle she came across.
So on Fathers Day of 2017, Jenna found out she was pregnant again. It only took 2 weeks for things to start going wrong. Jenna experienced extreme morning sickness which led her to the ER due to extreme weight loss and dehydration & was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum. At 8 weeks, she was diagnosed with pregnancy-induced hyperthyroidism. Even though I was not doing well, my little boy was doing ok. Jenna went on bed rest at home and ended up being admitted to the hospital at 27 weeks and delivered at 30 weeks, weighing 2 lb 2 oz. Jenna named him Andrew, which means strong and courageous. He did amazingly well in the NICU. He came home after 5 weeks weighing 3 lb 8 oz.
Although Drew was doing well, the pregnancy left lasting trauma, and Jenna ended up developing PTSD. It took 8 months for Jenna to get diagnosed and get treatment. It was the worst 8 months of her life.
Its now been four years after this Miracle Family last stepped foot in a NICU. Claire and Drew are thriving, and other than being a little smaller than average, you would never know that they had such traumatic beginnings. Jenna has fully recovered and hasn’t had another symptom of PTSD since her treatment. Jenna published a book about their journey called Better Early Than Never.
This wasnt the story her family ever wanted, but it made them who they are, and they wouldnt change it for the world.
